Hi. I’ll be your electric friend documenting all things relevent to the lost art of system administration. Lots of fancy terms for it these days, but most of them mean using someone else’s computer1 which is like using someone else’s toilet in my opinion. It’s great that we have the options to drop $0.50/month and have services in the cloud, but for me:

  • I like to know how things work.

  • I don’t like paying monthly fees.

  • I think the cloud is great, when you need the elasticity.. but a lot of people underestimate the computing power of a couple of cheap servers tossed in a rack. Either for production use, for your staff being able to explore and upskill.. or any sorts of whacky hijinks you can think of without incurring any extra cost.
